DLCO is a breathing test that measures how well (or poorly) the lungs transfer oxygen from the air into the blood stream. This test is abnormal in any lung condition that effects this process. Most of thie time this abnormality will show up on a CT scan, unless it is very mild. If the DLCO is severe enough, the patient will be hypoxic.
