Smoking cessation

JJ had posted on the JAMA article on Varenicline (Pfizer's Chantix for smoking cessation).
Has anybody had a chance to prescribe it yet?
There is a reported fairly high rate of nausea but it is also reported to be mild and transient. Any experience with that?

I did a search on cvs and drugstore.com and it came up empty. Is this available on the market yet>

Yes. Two of our local pharmacies already have it.

Hmm, I was under the impression that it wasn't being "launched" until later this year. Our Pfizer reps were not yet allowed to talk about it.

Maybe they figure the demand is higher down there in TN...

Ask a Phizer rep samples of "Starter and Maintenace Pak" We already have samples in MO. One of our secretaries is trying to steal one.

I just got a script for chantix. Its a 1 month starter kit for a whopping $112.00!!! So, how do you get samples, and how do I contact a rep? At 112, seems that should've covered the entire 12 week program..

well, the average cost of a pack of cigarettes is $4, so that's $120 per month. Therefore you *save* $8 per month (assuming you stop smoking of course). If insurance pays any of that, you would save evem more. Insurance doesn't cover the cost of cigarettes anyway...
